When Blue Jay Blog was first launched, the site had a simple note at the top stating:
New post every Monday and Thursday
Initially, this schedule seemed manageable and important for consistency for a new blog with no audience.
However, as the posts started to become significantly longer than anticipated, the bi-weekly schedule became too much, and we transitioned to a weekly schedule with a new tagline:
New post every Tuesday
Despite the adjustment, the posts continued to grow in length and complexity. This led to constant last-minute efforts, resulting in delays and a new tagline:
New post every Tuesday(ish)
Over time, the posts evolved into multi-week projects, challenging the consistency of a weekly blog. This shift has prompted a reevaluation of our posting schedule.
Several factors influenced this change:
1) Feeling constrained to produce in-depth posts weekly, causing avoidance of potentially large topics.
2) The pressure to create substantial weekly posts hinders the exploration of shorter, two-day projects.
3) The unpredictable workload of each post makes meeting weekly deadlines increasingly difficult.
The current schedule presents limitations on topic selection and fails to provide the expected predictability for readers. Therefore, it is time for a change.
To address these challenges, we have decided to remove the tagline altogether, allowing for more flexibility in post creation without sacrificing productivity. While posting will be less predictable, we anticipate maintaining our productivity levels.
This change is experimental. If successful, we will continue; if not, adjustments will be made accordingly.
Lastly, we value your feedback. Your input is crucial as we navigate these changes, and we encourage you to share your thoughts with us. The decision to modify our schedule partly stems from feedback received from our readers.
