After losing the first 2 games of the series in Oakland, they need to win the getaway game. Getting a 2 homer game from Justin Smoak and a 2 run bomb from Josh Donaldson in the 10th. It was a murky game with Francisco Liriano being only average, allowing 4 runs in 5 innings of work.
A couple of questions have come out of this team - is Justin Smoak really this good? The answer is yes. And I am surprised to say that!! His swing and miss rate has dropped by 50% and spray chart is much more spread out. His pitch selection has changed drastically. Smoak used to try and get in front of every fastball and hook it to right and left. The home run yesterday was off J Cotton, hitting left handed he hit to left centre field. This makes sense if the pitch was away, but it was inside.
The bullpen continued to be stellar and dealing lots of strike outs and zeros. Ryan Tepera is now 4-1 and steady member of the staff. If not for all the injuries, I am confident the Jays would be a top team in the American League.
Lots of good baseball ahead.
